The upper part of the temple composed of all pieces above the capital, i.e. the architrave, the frieze, and cornice. The front, face or outward appearance of the temple. Vertical grooves cut into the columns to break up the horizontalism of the drums and used to alternate light and shadows. A plain or decorated horizontal part of the entablature between the architrave and cornice.
